Robert and the “Free Music” debate

robert-tape

I decided to collect into one post all the articles and all of the Robert’s posts about the (hot) subject of music for free, that seems to widen up all over the web.

The whole debate started with an interview when promoting 4:13 Dream, in which Robert talked about the Radiohead’s “pay what you want” experiment with their latest album In Rainbows.

I must say that I find cool and inspiring to read Robert’s perpectives on the subject (or more precisely, any subject). I just love the way Robert doesn’t hold back and spit it all out of his system.

Especially, I love the fact that he doesn’t spare any word and you may feel that he’s very emotional about the whole thing. After all, the subject is about music, right? And what is a person like Robert made of, other than music?

So, here are the posts, in chronological order, that Robert posted on the official website.

My total lack of excitement about Hypnagogic States

hypnagogic-lack

This is a rather uncommon feeling, you know, having a coming up release from The Cure and not being at least a little shaked up about it.

But really, remixes never really excited me in the first place, then, from other artists? Then, putting it there where the NEW ALBUM should be? Then… Then I listend to the preview and, well it sounds more like a “messed-up” version than a “mixed-up” version, to me. And I patheticly still going to buy it, because it got the right name on it.

But all the excitement is saved up for the real thing. For 4:13 Dream.

New album title revealed: 4.13 Dream

So, it’s finally there and it’s finally official. After all the rumors we’ve heard about the album being titled 4.13, 13, Thirteen, or Dream 13, the band finally settle it down to 4.13 Dream.

Here’s Robert fresh-new post:

8/21/2008 4:20:13 PM – by CURE:ROBERT

THE NEW ALBUM IS CALLED 4.13 DREAM

AND IT WILL BE RELEASED ON OCTOBER 13TH… WE THINK!

Personally I always fancied 4.13 (just with the numbers). For some reason, the word Dream next to it doesn’t do it for me, even thought it’s a word that I love and that I, in some ways, associate with The Cure.

Otherwise, release on the 13th of October? That sounds good.

Official site down…

Looks like the official site is down since a few hours now. The very first page is on, but when you click on enter, you get an error message.

So, I wonder: technical issues? Or, are we about to get a new official website?

Update: Of course, technical issues it was…

4Tour report: unplayed songs

This might have been covered somewhere, but for what it’s worth, here are the left-out songs according to the famous picture of the 4Tour songlist (North American Leg):

  • Club America
  • Siamese Twins
  • Watching Me Fall
  • The Same Deep Water As You
4tour-setlist

And by the way, I really would have liked to hear/see a version of Watching Me Fall and Club America with Porl on guitar (even if nothing I got to say about Perry’s performances on those songs, who did more than a great job).

While, on a different register, the only un-listed song played from that list has been Forever, performed as the last song of the last show. (And I was there. Yeah, I was…).
