Cureuphoria is a Social Network for Curemates, designed to put together the main features of other social media (such as Facebook or Twitter) and regular forums, in an unique place that is specifically created for all Cure lovers.
So, instead of having to use a generic, impersonal social media for anything related to The Cure, as a Curemate (a member of Cureuphoria) you can now finally connect with the whole community – fans and friends – in a place that is 100% Cure!
Here’s how the community features work:
Home
The homepage displays the latest activity stream of all Curemates: new members, updates (in profiles and groups), new topics in forums, new friendships, ect. You technically never “post” on the homepage, it just displays the sitewide activity (see Posting).
You can choose to display activity from all Curemates, or only from your friends, or your groups, or @mention (see @mention). Additionally you can filter the above activity with different choices.
Curemates
Curemates have a Cure-oriented profile page. From that page you can see the whole personal activity, groups, favorites, add friends, see messages, @mentions, etc.
A better media albums system (photos and videos) is going to be integrated soon.
Groups
Groups are what gets people together around a specific subject. Join a group and partecipate to discussions by posting updates and posting on the Group’s forum.
A group has:
- A Home (activity stream): it screens all that happens in that particular group (new members, new topics), or to post “updates”.
- A forum: just like any other regular forum, you can create topics or discuss on existing ones.
- Members: the list of the Curemates thet joined the group.
- An avatar: an image that gives an identity to the group.
If you have an idea for a Group that isn’t there, contact the site’s admin (@gian) and just suggest it.
Discussions
This displays the latest active topics from all the Groups’ forums. When you join a Group you can post new topics or reply to existing ones.
If you want to create a new Topic and don’t find a Group for it, join the ‘Open Topics” group, and post it there.
And here’s how you do stuff:
Posting
When you are logged in you can post anything using the “post an update” box. An “upadate” can contain text, photos, videos, or all. Like on Facebook.
From the box you can choose to post in “your profile” (activity), or in any Groups home (activity) that you have joined.
(When you post from the Homepage, you are NOT actually posting “on the Homepage”, but where you choose to (your profile, or group). It appears on the Homepage because there is where the general Activity stream is displayed).
Updates are different than Topics. Topics are inside Forums. Updates are posted on a Curemate personal activity, or on the Group’s activity ( group’s home).
@mentions
Like with Twitter, @mentions is a way to refer to a particular Curemate when you post something. You use it by putting @ just before the Curemate username, like this: @gian. That also turns the @mention into a link to the Curemate profile.
(Note that some Curemates may have a username different than the display name. @mentions works with the username).
Posting videos and photos
Thanks to an auto-detection system, if you want to include a video from YouTube or a picture from Flickr, just copy/paste the URL (web address) of the page containing the main video or photo, and the video or photo will be includes instead of the URL text (http:// site.com).
If, on the orther hand, you just want to post the link to that YouTube or Flickr page, just omit the http:// part and the URL will turn into a link to the page (Exemple, intead of htt://www.url…, put ‘www.url…’).
Other than YouTube and Flickr, the auto-detection work also with: Photobucket, Blip.tv, Vimeo, DailyMotion, Hulu, Viddler, Scribd, Qik, Revision3, Wordpress.tv
Send private message to Curemates
Yeah, you already know allt about that, don’t you?
Like
You can “like” Curemates activity, the same way you do with Facebook.
Favorities
You can put some activity into your “favorities”, to keep a personal list of… well your favorite stuff.
Post to Facebook and Twitter from Cureuphoria.
You can synchronize your activity from Cureuphoria with Facebook and Twitter, so that when you write something from Cureuphoria it is posted on your Facebook’s wall and/or Twitter and also the othere way around. To do so, go to your profile settings, and enable Facestream or Tweetsream.
Reply
You can reply to any activity updates. Just note that if you want to reply to a topic, you need to reply from within the forum, not from the homepage, otherwise you’re replying to the “activity update” not to the topic in the forum.
Wrapping it up…
As with any other interface, you get it when you use it, so play with it.
And… many things will be improved with time, and some cool stuff will be added. Also, some sections as News, Links, Cure Base, are going to be redesigned!
And remember, this is YOUR Cure place, so get active, invite your friends over, and just enjoy it!
CureLove to anyone…
